District of Columbia v. Heller

A land mark Supreme Court decision regarding the 2nd Amendment was handed down this
week. Many, including myself were eagerly awaiting this decision, in hopes of retaining, and not losing our gun rights given by the United States Constitution. This week the court handed down a 5-4 decision striking the Washington D.C. gun ban down. Obviously my initial reaction was, yes. We still have gun rights in this country! However, upon further thought and review, I am appalled!
It is a travesty that four United States Supreme Court Justices essentially voted to prevent honest, hard working, law abiding Americans from legally owning guns. With the vote of these four justices they believe in their ideology, not the Constitution. Apparently the infinite wisdom of these four justices are far superior to the actual Constitution of the United States. Justice Stevens in his dissenting opinion cited the founders intent, as one of his  arguments. Well, when deciding cases, a Supreme Court Justice is supposed to interpret the Constitution, period.
For the pro-gun Democrats out there, (the few and the proud) you should be extremely greatful that George W. Bush is President of the United States. Without his two Supreme Court appointments (Roberts and Alito) the decision would have went the other way. The end result of that would have been a huge push by the future huge majorities that the Democrats will enjoy in the United States Congress, and possibly Barack Obama in the Oval Office.
There is no doubt that if Al Gore and John Kerry would have won their elections this decision would have went the other way. If George W. Bush had not won in 2000 and 2004 we could be looking for drastic restrictions and even permenant bans on guns altogether throughout this country. The Supreme Court appointments of President Clinton (Ginsburg and Breyer) nearly wiped away the Second Amendment of the Constitution of the United States as we know it. There is no doubt that Senator Barack Obama would appoint similar justices to those of former President Clinton. The Supreme Court should be one of the most important and crucial issues of this election.
